ECB protesters clash with Frankfurt police, tear gas deployed (PHOTOS)

Clashes have taken place in Frankfurt between Blockupy protesters and police on the day the European Central Bank headquarters open in the city, RT’s Peter Oliver reports from the scene. Tear gas has been deployed to disperse the demonstrators.
A helicopter is buzzing over the head, the tear gas is very much thick in the air,” Peter Oliver reports from Frankfurt center. “The police have an iron cordon set around the new ECB building."
We’ve seen running battles already in the very early morning between police and demonstrators. A police car is on fire right in front of me. Tear gas has been deployed to get people away from that car.
Live footage from the scene shows tires were set on fire as well as a heavy riot police presence. A water cannon was used to put out the tires.
T
rash cans have reportedly been set on fire across the city, and more cars torched in the city’s West-end area.
