Tributes have flooded in for brave Hayley Okines, whose tragic story touched the nation.
The teen, from Bexhill, East Sussex, had spent her whole life battling with Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome – a condition that causes a person to age rapidly before their time.
Hayley suffered with serious heart problems, a lack of body fat and a loss of hair seeing her become known as the "100-year-old teenager".
But after years of inspiring others and campaigning to raise awareness for the debilitating illness, Hayley's mum Kerry announced that she had died earlier this week – at the tender age of 17.
Writing on Hayley's Facebook page, Kerry wrote: "My baby has gone somewhere better. She took her last breath in my arms at 9.39pm."
Following the news yesterday, the Progeria Research Foundation posted a tribute to the young battler on their Facebook page.
It reads: "The entire Progeria family mourns together with many as we say goodbye to Hayley Okines, our smart, beautiful and spirited English rose, who passed away today at age 17.
"Gone from our sight, but never our memories, gone from our touch but never our hearts. We will miss you."
